Microsoft 365 Copilot Wave 2: Pages, Python in Excel, and AI Agents

We are thrilled to announce the next phase of Microsoft 365 Copilot, introducing powerful updates that merge the web, work, and AI into a new design system for knowledge work. This wave includes exciting new features like Copilot Pages, Python integration in Excel, and Copilot agents, further transforming how teams work and automate processes. Here’s a look at what’s coming:

Introducing Copilot Pages: A New AI Collaboration Tool

The first major addition is Copilot Pages, a dynamic and persistent canvas designed for collaborative work with AI. As the first digital artifact of the AI age, Copilot Pages enables multiplayer collaboration, where you and your team can work together with Copilot, editing and sharing content in real time. Copilot Pages makes AI-generated content durable, allowing you to refine and expand it, pulling in data from your files, work apps, and the web. Pages is designed to help you and your team create, iterate, and collaborate more efficiently—empowering a new work pattern where AI and human collaboration blend seamlessly.

Copilot Pages begins rolling out today for Microsoft 365 Copilot customers and will be generally available in September 2024. In the coming weeks, over 400 million people with Microsoft Entra accounts will also gain access to Copilot Pages.

Supercharging Productivity with Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft 365 apps are at the heart of modern work, and Copilot is already enhancing personal productivity. With Wave 2, we’re taking user feedback to make Copilot even better across a range of applications:

Copilot in Excel: Now generally available, Copilot in Excel supports advanced data analysis, working with both numerical and text data. The addition of Python integration allows you to perform complex tasks like forecasting, machine learning, and data visualization—without needing to write code. Public preview of Copilot in Excel with Python is available now.

Copilot in PowerPoint: With Narrative Builder, Copilot helps you go from an idea to a polished presentation quickly, building outlines and adding topics. With Brand Manager, your presentations stay on-brand, leveraging company-approved templates and soon pulling images from your SharePoint asset library.

Copilot in Teams: Meetings now have two conversations: spoken and chat. Copilot in Teams can reason over both, ensuring no question or idea is left behind by scanning meeting transcripts and chats for missed contributions. This feature will be generally available in September 2024.

Copilot in Outlook: Overloaded by emails? Copilot in Outlook prioritizes your inbox based on content, context, and relevance, summarizing key messages and allowing you to customize your priority filters. This feature enters public preview in late 2024.

Copilot in Word: Coming later in September 2024, Copilot in Word integrates multiple sources like Word docs, PowerPoint slides, PDFs, and even emails directly into your writing process, allowing you to draft content faster. Updates also include a new on-canvas start experience and inline collaboration with Copilot.

Copilot in OneDrive: No more wasting time searching through files. Copilot in OneDrive can summarize and compare up to five files at once, delivering key insights without needing to open each document. This feature will be available by the end of September 2024.

Scaling Your Team with Copilot Agents

We’re also introducing Copilot agents, AI-driven assistants that automate and execute business processes at scale. These agents range from simple task assistants to fully autonomous agents capable of driving complex processes. By working in the background, Copilot agents help reduce costs, grow revenue, and streamline operations—enabling businesses to scale like never before.

To make agent-building even easier, we’re launching Agent Builder, a tool within Copilot Studio that allows users to create custom agents directly in BizChat or SharePoint. These agents can be connected to your SharePoint files or other business process data, turning them into powerful knowledge resources you can share with colleagues. Agent Builder will begin rolling out in the coming weeks.

Transforming Businesses with Copilot

Since its introduction, Copilot has become an integral part of daily workflows, helping businesses save time and collaborate more effectively. From Vodafone’s investment in Copilot for 68,000 employees to Teladoc customer service agents saving five hours per week, Copilot has transformed how companies work. Honeywell users alone saved an average of 92 minutes per week with Microsoft 365 Copilot, equating to 74 hours saved over a year.

With over 700 product updates and 150 new features, Microsoft 365 Copilot is continuously improving based on real customer feedback. We’re excited to keep building on this momentum and bring the latest AI capabilities, including GPT-4o and OpenAI o1, to help you work smarter and more efficiently than ever.
